Dog Days of Summer. Cardiff, Ca.

More than 10,000 two- and four-legged dogs and their owners showed up last Saturday for the seventh annual Cardiff Dog Days of Summer celebration street fair.

Billed by organizers Cardiff 101 Main Street as the “fastest growing street fair for dogs and dog lovers in Southern California,” Dog Days runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 11 at the intersection of Aberdeen Drive and Newcastle Avenue in Cardiff-by-the-Sea. Admission is free.

More than 180 pet-related vendor and education booths were set up at the fair, as well as food booths, including Souplantation, which will offer free samples.

There was a “Blessing of the Dogs” at 10 a.m. and a “Dirty Dogs” doggie fashion show at 11:30 a.m. Festivalgoers can enter their dogs into a number of pet contests ($5 per category), with prizes awarded for Cutest Puppy, Best Looking Big Dog (and Small Dog), Best Kisser, Best Dressed, Best Dog Trick and Best Smile.

The band Bucket Ruckus performed at 2:15 p.m. as the happy dogs showed off their skills on an agility course all day sponsored by K-9 Connection.

Pets with tacky toenails were given free pet-icure at the 20 Lounge Nail Bar booth, then had their photo taken in Photography by Gabriela’s doggie photo booth. There was a doggie beach area where hot dogs could cool off and a doggie Zumba class where kids can exercise with their dogs.

San Diego-based DogTV will had a lounge where dogs could sit and watch the new pet-focused network on multiple video screens and there was be a silent auction, with proceeds from auction items benefiting local animal charities and the Cardif f 101 Main Street organization.
