Actress Ashley Greene’s West Hollywood apartment was destroyed Friday morning in a fire that claimed the life of one of the “Twilight” star’s dogs, TMZ reported.

The 26-year-old starlet, her boyfriend and her brother managed to wake up in time to escape the blaze, which broke out on a couch in the living room, a firefighter told the gossip site.

The two men were unsuccessful, however, in their attempts to return to the apartment to rescue Greene’s two pets. By the time firefighters were able to get the fire under control, they could only save one of the two animals, and found the other dead in a hiding spot under Greene’s bed.

TMZ later posted dramatic cellphone video of Greene cradling the blanket-wrapped body of her dead pet and crying inconsolably in the building’s lobby.

“We were dispatched at 9:50 a.m. PST to reports of a highrise fire,” Inspector Quvondo Johnson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department told the Daily News. “We did see smoke and fire from the third floor when we arrived. Based on the occupancy load of the building, we quickly raised it to a two alarm fire.”

Fifty-five firefighters responded to the scene and brought the fire under control by 10:07 a.m. PST.

“The cause is undetermined,” the actress’s spokesperson told People magazine.

It’s not clear if the deceased dog was Marlo, Greene’s prized fox terrier that had often been seen carried by the actress on sets over the past few years.

“She’s like my child, and she instantly brightens up everything,” Greene said in a Lucky magazine interview last year.

Three people were injured from the fire, but declined hospitalization.

Greene has become one of Hollywood’s hottest actresses after the success of the ‘Twilight’ movies. Green had been known to bring both her dogs to work with her on the set of the Twilight films.
